Xenovibes

Went to watch this gig, Xenovibes last night at the Society Cafe at the old Parliament House. Rather nice place though the yuppie and rich men stench was in the air. Anyway, Shueh-Li, the main composer launched her solo album on this occasion. Honestly, I went for the event since I won a free ticket for it. New age music is not really my scene. And I've never seen anyone play the theremin before.

To be fair, I was really impressed with the level of musicianship and the theremin as well. Needless to say, the amount of gear they have onstage was pretty staggering. They have really interesting concepts, mixing ethnic instrumentation with electronic beats which was either prgrammed or played by a drummer through an electronic drum kit. However, I must still say that it wasn't my cup of tea, growing up as an indie music brat. The sense of rock n roll danger wasn't there. It just seemed too nice and happy for me.
